Kyrylo Budanov, the chief of Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR), hopes that Canada could hand over to Ukraine tens of thousands of rockets that are awaiting demolition at one of the country’s military bases.
More than 83,000 CRV7 ground attack rockets are warehoused at Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot Dundurn, south of Saskatoon. Canada no longer has any use for them, and has selected a private contractor to demolish the rockets.
Speaking with the Global News outlet, Budanov said donating the rockets will help Ukraine fend off Russian forces and save Canadian taxpayers the cost of destroying them.

However, given that CRV7s use solid fuel, they might still be considered safe if stored correctly and not exposed to moisture or contamination.
I would bet my next full paycheque that these things were not stored properly, and basically sat in a field in rural Saskatchewan with little more than a polyethylene tarp on them for the last 40 years.
Very easy to look the site up on Google maps. Looks adequately stored. When do I get to split the paycheque?
You don’t buy them without proper storage, they were in a warehouse.
Just because its allegedly in a warehouse doesn’t mean it was climate controlled or properly pest controlled. If you’ve spent any time working in or around the Canadian Federal government you will know that expenditure on facilities maintenance is almost zero, outside of the National Capital Region.
Sigh. You don’t buy these without proper storage. Seriously why would you go through all the cost of manufacturing them ($$$) and not the cost of storing them properly (¢).
You don’t know a lot about people do you?
People will spend a ton on something and then completely skimp on storage
Because though a person is smart, people are stupid. Man made disasters are usually not because persons involved in it is stupid, but because the people involved in it are. Being in groups just seem to make all the members braindead.
My guy, this was done generations ago, maybe at the time of purchase in the 70s, they came with awesome storage. Now not so much. We can’t even house most of our military personnel in non mold and fungus infested barracks or ships, you think they’re going to make sure the obsolete soviet era missiles have nice sleeping quarters?
Still think those rockets are good to go?

So at worst they’ll be on par with what Russia is fielding?
in the worst case (some types of) solid fuel can be milled and mixed with RDX, then used in making of thermobaric grenades of which Ukrainian army uses plenty
Maybe. But western governments, specifically the US, has hamstrung Ukraine’s ability to win.
They’ve made incredible progress, and anything but continuing to make progress is a significant set back.
They’re a bit desperate.
Well fuck…when you’re right you’re right. Send them the rockets.
Not to mention safe disposal of ordinance is expensive af. Usually disposal like this is done even before the rockets are end of life simply because of the liability of having dangerous ordinance in inventory.

At what point do we view Ukraine as a sunk-cost?
At what point do we admit we’ve been taken for a ride by propaganda to fund the MIC?

Even if they lose?
Are you just gonna say we should’ve sent them more support? Lol.
Have you considered Ukraine cannot win without foreign armies assisting them in combat?
The West already won on this big time, even if Ukraine loses. Russia has lost most of its Soviet era stockpile, thousands of tanks, while the West had only committed its surplus.
That’s not counting personnel losses.

That’s a really cold, although not entirely untrue view of the war.
It paints Ukrainian’s as just a sacrifice to weaken Russia, which has limited value depending on your perspective.
Buddy, you talk about “being taken by propaganda” then you parrot 100% of the russian propaganda yourself. Ukraine wants to defend themselves and they will do it to their last man. They were attacked by a foreign power that threatens Europe. With proper support, Ukraine will win. It’s a matter of consistency, not “pledging then not sending” like a lot of countries have been doing.
The thing is, you people view anything that isn’t unwavering support for Ukraine as “Russian propaganda.”
What I’ve just said it actually the stance a lot of Western military analysts take when they talk about the return on investment for aiding Ukraine. They don’t mention that Ukraine can win. They mention we can weaken Russia.
You are just proving my point that you are too blinded by propaganda to realize it.
No, what you have said has been 100% russian propaganda. You aren’t provided a “reasonable take”, you aren’t looking at both sides, you are just parrotting russian propaganda.
Infinitely limited lmao. All Russia needed to do to prevent this was not invade Ukraine.
