It especially leads to harassment of vulnerable people. There’s many aspects of moderation that is done here that if implemented in other fediverse software would become a vector for Kiwifarms level harassment.

The thing is, sublinks lead developer tried to work with development team of lemmy. It was like pulling teeth constantly and his experience was overall negative.
It is unfortunate that this is what you have decided to take away from the blog post instead of reflecting on the criticism I have provided. Instead of reflecting on my list of legitimate criticism you have decided to call me entitled and hone in on small aspects of the blog post in attempt to dismiss it completely. Per usual, it is everyone else that seems to be the problem but you. I outlined my own issues with lemmy after a LOT of patience and goodwill. That’s lost, and this comment solidifies further why I will switch away from lemmy as soon as I get the chance. Whether you decide to accept the points I have made is on you but ultimately your refusal to recognize the issues I have outlined will cause this project to fade away completely. And that’s really sad. I love lemmy as a project and an idea.
It can become a source of targeted harassment, as it has on the rest of the fediverse before.
I will migrate it to sublinks as soon as I can.
It might be an issue with the activitypub plugin, https://jewy.blog/b/1T try this shortlink version instead
Honestly coming here and starting my own instance and providing help for other instances and stuff has reignited my long lost love of computers and open source stuff. The passion for it is thankfully coming back.
The only thing I really have to add is on the topic of toxicity. Like you, I’m an instance admin and have a bird’s eye view of a lot of behavior patterns. I’ve recently started wondering how many people are here because they’re too toxic for regular social media rather than because they want to be here. I won’t guess an actual number, but I would say it’s not insignificant.
That’s unfortunately a big issue with alternative social media platforms and without tools to combat them it goes bad really bad. I agree completely.
Reading, discord, mastodon, crocheting are my main things at this point. Lemmy occasionally.
For context, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes when it comes to lemmy admin stuff especially in the matrix channels. There is a significant frustration and lack of confidence in the lemmy developers at this point. Even those who try to contribute to the project get eventually feeling pushed out.
Welcome to the hell of being a lemmy admin. There’s a reason why lemmy admins are fed up with the developers.
Just a bunch of Japanese script kiddies targetting the fediverse and its network for some reason. There’s active measures being taken and thankfully many instances are monitoring it pretty well.
Idk if this was wonky kbin federation or spam to start shit but posting it three times in a row isn’t going to lead to more people biting the bait
Knitting my own garments (sweaters, scarfs, etc) has made me appreciate how long it really takes to make actually good clothing that’s meant to last. Thankfully more and more people are getting on board with the idea of “slow fashion”, with a significant amount of younger people especially during the pandemic picking up knitting and crochet as well as seeing more of the value it possesses than before.
Antisemitism. Welcome to being Jewish on the internet.
https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/antisemitism this article specifically and the series of it goes into detail more beyond that
Don’t attempt to explain my own peoples hatred to me. I know more than you as I’ve lived this, as a Jew who is explicitly not a Zionist and has faced antisemitism online and offline. Stop.
Any group. Antisemitism is unfortunately a unique form of racism that can be perpetuated by anyone. It’s complicated, and it’s complexity makes it all the more frustrating. It’s not just a Nazi thing, it’s an anyone thing. Anyone can perpetuate antisemitism, not just Nazis. That’s why it’s such a prevalent form of bigotry across the world. It’s also prevalent not just in Europe but there is antisemitism that has been culturally common in the Middle East as well as it is in the West, most of it which predates Israels founding as a whole too. That doesn’t justify Israels bullshit and their fascist government. Jew’s are hated by nearly everyone, everywhere.
Because West media purposely masking Israel with the cloak of cultural protection given to Jews is often what I discuss with my friend and is fucking disgusting and a disservice to all of the innocent Jews.
This specifically is something to be very careful when stating, as it veers dangerously close into territory of “jews control the media” which is an antisemitic conspiracy theory. I know what you are trying to say and our intentions seem to be in good faith here, but I ask you to analyze that as it is one of those things that people may take in very bad faith.
https://www.ushmm.org/antisemitism/what-is-antisemitism/explained <- this is a good primer for it. It’s extremely complicated and there’s a reason why even in the US many well intentioned people don’t understand it either. It also doesn’t help that Israel uses legit examples of antisemitism to try and shield their war crimes from criticism.
As a Jew, I say this kindly as I possibly can but it very much is quite strong in the real world. I’ve experienced antisemitism numerous times over with people using antizionism as an excuse. Antisemitism is really bad and has risen in the past few years online and offline, and people with bad intentions absolutely exploit Israeli war crimes to justify their antisemitism. And it creates a shitty feedback loop as hardcore Zionists point to instances of antisemitism that’s in done under the guise of antizionism as “hey look see they hate us thats why we need zionism!”
