Yorke could have just said “yes”, but instead he decided to get shirty with the man and then walk off stage.

People in this thread are saying that playing shows in Israel doesn’t mean that he supports the actions of the Israeli government. But what does it mean when he refuses to condemn the genocide?

I’ve seen people saying that if you paste Arabic text into InDesign, by default it orders it left-to-right and doesn’t ligate the text.

The letters not connecting is an issue with the graphic design, not the translation.

The Newsweek article I linked doesn’t say anything about it being translated incorrectly. It says the letters are in the wrong direction.

Either her campaign got screwed over by some Arabic speaking Republican or someone who wanted to discredit her because of the whole Gaza issue.

I think it’s more likely that the text was translated correctly by a professional, but then the graphic design was done by a volunteer who doesn’t have any experience with Arabic text, and nobody on AOC’s team noticed because none of them know anything about Arabic, none of them know any Arabic speakers, and they don’t respect the Arab community enough to consult with them.

Edit: In fact, not just Arabic speakers. A Muslim of any background, or anyone familiar with the look of Arabic calligraphy would have been able to notice the letters weren’t ligated properly.

I guess I’m not surprised that the party that is bombing Palestine doesn’t have a single Muslim on staff, even in New York City. I’d be shocked if they did.
