I’m moving my posts from Reddit to Lemmy before delete them.

This post is from 2021-11-11.

It should’ve been apt-get but welp.

You accused me at least three times or more of “blaming him” and then you accused me of “being upset about him not using Fedora”. (Edit: I never contacted Linus, the LTT Media Group or their employees, in ANY way.)

I stopped reading your text, because you feel toxic to me. First of all… Me giving my opinion, that I consider this exact thing as user error does NOT equal blaming someone… Please don’t project your negativy onto others.

Also, I’m also not a lover of the terminal myself, aside from hyfetch or anipy-cli.

Good day to you, Sir, Ma’am or Enby.

You blamed him for a bug in the OS because he didn’t do things exactly how you think they should be done. You didn’t give an opinion, you shifted blame.

Sorry you feel like having a discussion is toxic, but telling someone you stopped reading half way through and saying goodbye is, in fact, toxic behavior.

I’m fine not having a discussion with you further.

If anyone actually cares… I will try to explain how I meant it… I said “This exact thing actually was user error”. With that, I meant THE DECISION to prioritize “Installing Steam” over “Installing OS-Updates”. THIS USER DECISION -is not- the OS’s fault. I mean, I don’t like Pop!OS myself either, but, really the OS can’t be blamed for this user decision, as you would - hopefully - check for updates first in Windows too…

I really don’t see what’s the big issue here now, or why dude here is acussing me multiple times of “blaming him” and “being upset”… But, sure, whatever floats their boat. shrugs Always so much pointless drama everywhere… sigh

If I install an operating system from an image built within the last 20 years, it being able to install a single piece of software is a perfectly reasonable expectation.

Yes, it’s good practice to check for updates first. You do it, I do it. But Linus here represents something special here. He is a technical user but unfamiliar with Linux. If he can cause a system to completely break by simply asking it to install one piece of software in a standard way, then what hope is there for a layman?

Getting on your high horse and talking about the “right” order to do things makes you seem like an elitist looking down on the poor peons who dare to try and use their OS in any other way than the one you deem correct. That’s why people think you’re upset.

Oh, and as for blaming Linus, you did literally say it was Linus’ user error and that he only has himself to blame. Your words, not mine.

Thank you, this sounds more reasonable and understandable to me now why someone would believe that this is what I said.

Though, I really don’t see what about pointing out a questionable decision equals to actually blaming someone… Or where this accusation comes from:

Hope not everyone in this community is this… angry. Who hurt you?

What are you doing, if not placing the blame on the user by calling it a “user error”?

This exact thing actually was user error. I mean, I like my people Linus, Luke, Emily and the others like every other average tech person… But when Steam is the absolute first thing you go for after installing your OS, then, sorry, but then you have only yourself to blame.

Your exact words, taken from your post. You literally said that he has only himself to blame.

I didn’t. I said “You”. It was a generalized statement about how I think about this incident. It wasn’t targeted at anyone specifically. …The word mincing in this community is worrying. Guess I will do myself a favor and just leave.
